Celebrity tips: Look like a star!

October 21, 2008

For your big night out on the red carpet, come dressed as your favourite movie character, cartoon character or celebrity!

Think simple but iconic things that would identify you with your favourite character or celebrity – a bow-tie and brown bear for Mr Brown, a mole and flared skirt for Marilyn Monroe…

Or you can go all the way and come dressed in a movie character costume! (Think X-Men, Woody from Toy Story, or any movie icon!)

Here is a website you can check out for ideas on how to dress up as a movie character: http://www.costumecraze.com/Movie-Costumes.html

And if you are keen, check out these stores for some last-minute shopping:

1. No. 1 Costume Pte Ltd  – they are the largest and possibly the best!
32 Aliwal Street, Singapore 199922
Tel: 63339440

2. House Of Costumez
1 Sophia Rd, Peace Centre #02-03
Tel: 6334 3359 (good to call before going down as shop is sometimes closed)

3. Masquerade – this place is the cheapest!
26A Bali Lane
Tel : 6292 4889

Prizes – and fame – await the best dressed!

Tips for producing your Hollywood blockbuster!

October 20, 2008

As we are approaching your night out on the red carpet, you are probably cracking your heads to make your allocated video clip a box-office hit.

Here’s a tip that can make a great difference to your voice-over.

It has to do with your movie ‘soundtrack’. You see, once the clip is muted, the video can sound quite ‘bare’ because it has only voices, and no music or sound effects.

Here’s what you can do:

1. Not everyone in the clip has to be involved in the dialogue. Try getting someone to make appropriate sound effects at appropriate points in your clip.

2. Raid your children’s (or hosts’ children!) toy cupboard for some squeaky toys, or other toys that can lend some sound effects to your voice-over.

3. Use music at appropriate points to bring your voice-over to life!

These tips are just for starters. Get together with your cell and put your heads together for more ideas!

If all else fails, remember you can reach the directors of NOT Calefare at notcalefare [at] gmail.com

Here’s to your Hollywood blockbuster!

Are you the F1?

September 30, 2008

We don’t mean Alonso, Massa or Hamilton, or anything to do with the glitzy car race around town. (By the way, did you catch those stunning shots of the Singapore skyline, City Hall and Fullerton Hotel?? WOW… way to go, Singapore!!)

By F1, we mean the Funniest One.

If you viewed the Jackie Chan video clip, then you surely know what we are talking about.

Think you can do better? Think you can take an iconic movie clip, and add a voiceover dialogue that will make folks fall off their chair and roll on the floor?

Then you are up for the F1 Challenge!

Gather your pals, register your team (let us know you are interested by emailing us at notcalefare@gmail.com) and get your fan club (your carecell lah!) all signed up and ready to cheer for you at the event!

Hurry… Registration begins this weekend!

What in the world do movies have to do with Thanksgiving?

September 16, 2008

That’s a good question.

Come and find out! The answer is well worth waiting for, we promise.

But here is a clue…

Excuse me, are you a calefare?

September 10, 2008

We have our theme and official title for Thanksgiving 2008!

Playing off the recently launched sitcom starring Gurmit Singh and company, we are calling it ‘NOT Calefare!’

And it’s no ordinary sit-down dinner either.

It’s your night out on the red carpet!

A starry, starry night as we celebrate the celebrity in you…

A star-studded, 8-course dinner with lots of entertainment, fun and laughter.

Sounds good? We certainly thot so  =)

Plus, we are making plans to capture some ‘not-calefare’ moments on video.

So watch out… you JUST might be on candid camera  =)

Unless Brad Pitt asks you out for a date…

August 27, 2008

We made headway tonite.

We settled on a MOVIE theme for our Thanksgiving.

What have movies to do with Thanksgiving???

Ah, the answer will be revealed on October 26th, 6pm.

It’s a Sunday and the next day is a public holiday.

So you can definitely stay back, linger, mingle, enjoy the evening with good friends.

Mark your calendar please…

Unless Brad Pitt asks you out for a date, you are booked, my friend.

Got it? Good.

Ikea says, you don’t have to be rich to be clever.

August 23, 2008

Well, we aren’t rich but we were certainly feeling quite clever tonite.

We thought of doing something totally different for Thanksgiving this year, something out of the box.

Like a giant flea market.

Or even a water games tournament.

But then we remembered that the event is Thanksgiving and not games day or Family Day.

Oh well… sign on for Family Day committee, anyone?

I am officially a yummy mummy!

August 20, 2008

And that’s because our committee meeting today was held at Roland Restaurant!

Food tasting, that’s what the agenda was.

Who would have thought that being in an event committee involved such perks?

The dinner was a treat from our Chairperson, Josephine.

Ah, feed them then work them! Now that we have eaten our fill, we are officially part of the committee and can’t back out already!

Kidding, kidding. It was really sweet of Josephine to give us a treat. Yummy!
